Somali Institute for Health Research (SIHR) works on urgent national and international public health issues whereby data generated will be used for tracking health risks, identifying emerging problems, improving treatment, and evaluating programs. The institute has close collaboration with different local and global institutions. We will provide evidence-based advice to the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders that provide health services to Somali people.

Area of work

The services and advices provided by SIHR are based on research evidence. We also train researchers through our School of Public health.  

Our work is guided by four strategic priorities.

Priority 1: Establish health research system in the country.

SIHR has research collaborations with the universities and hospitals in Somalia and internationally with the aim being to rebuild the health research system in Somalia.

Priority 2: Improve the public health and support research to advance health of the populations.

Healthier society is our main priority. We strive to improve health and well-being of communities through local people’s involvement and multi-sectoral collaboration in research and health awareness programs

Priority 3: Capacity building and improving human resources for health.

SIHR provides short research training programs, postgraduate degree programs and community health training courses. 

Priority 4: National, Regional  and International collaborations.  

SIHR aims to establish national, regional and global collaborations, and to work with similar institutions around the global in areas of mutual interest.
